In this post I will talk about the obesity, seeing as a very important problem, due to the unfortunate increase of this tendency, for that reason, the question is: is a obesity a disease?. It is incredible how quickly obesity expanded in Chile. We have the problem of malnutrition to have the problem of obesity. Currently, Chile is in second place in the OCDE ranking, the first is the United States. This means that 34% of the population of 15 years upwards has obesity.
In effect, I think that the obesity is a disease, due to a series of arguments. First of all, a disease prevents the efficient functioning of the body, also shortens life expectancy and can even cause death, so clearly we are talking about a disease when we talk about obesity. It must also be said that obesity is a risk factor for other diseases, that is, obesity can cause hypertension, diabetes, cancer, heart problems, etc. Also, some studies related to the subject, show a character of inheratability, not being a problem of actions, such as eating a lot or doing little exercise, but it is a genetic problem.
At present, governments must do something urgently, they must create public policies to combat obesity. You must create policies so that people exercise more, so that they eat less, but so that it is also accepted as a disease, since children being fat is a defect and that must change in our mentality.
